I am running ASE 12. on AIX 4.3.3
I have an LTO tape drive connected and defined as dumpdevice
"rmt0"
When I attempt a database dump with:
dump database db_name to rmt0 with init
I get the following in the backup log: "The format of the
device configuration file /home/sybase is invalid. Remove
the config
uration file and reconfigure the device by issuing a DUMP
with the INIT qualifier. Return code = 1."
There is NO backup_tape.cfg file on the machine.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

One: make sure that you are using a non-rewinding tape device.
Two: make sure your ebf if current.
Three: make sure your os patches are current.

It is #3 that is the culprit IIRC on AIX 4.3.x releases (remembering
from about 4 years ago).
