Dear all gurus,

I would like to enquiry whether sybase version 12.0 can perform dump with
compress option or not? Can give an example on tat or any website tat i can link
to?

Hi KCC,

technically you would be correct in the sense you could copy the
compress.o (IIRC) from a 12.5.1.x server. It will even work with
v11.9.2 but it would not be supported by Sybase.

Realistically, compressed backups from Sybase are only available in
v12.5 and higher.

BMC's SQL Backtraq works with Sybase's backup server to provide
compressed backups, table restores, etc. This may be a better option
for you.

The compression feature was backported and is available in 12.0.0.7 ESD #1
and higher 12.0.x ebfs. 12.0.x has been end-of-lifed and is no longer supported
by Sybase engineering, though technical support may still offer advice and limited
assistance on it.
